Mobile Phone Price in Bangladesh November 2025

Mobile phones began gaining traction in Bangladesh during the late ’90s. The first models were bulky compared to today’s sleek designs, featuring antennas on top and a weight that made them cumbersome to carry. These were known as “brick phones.” At the time, the only function they offered was making calls, yet owning one was a symbol of prestige due to its high price. Today, these phones are no longer available in the market.

Feature Phones

The early 2000s ushered in the era of “bar phones” or “feature phones,” also commonly referred to as “button phones” in Bangladesh. These devices introduced new functionalities like text messaging, MMS, polyphonic ringtones, FM radio, 3.5 mm jack, simple games, Bluetooth, and even basic cameras in some models. Feature phones quickly became popular across Bangladesh due to their affordability and expanded capabilities compared to the first-generation mobile phones.

As technology advanced and the market grew, new brands emerged with innovative features and competitive pricing. Nokia led the feature phone market, with iconic models like the Nokia 3310, 1100, 1110, 3210, and 6600 dominating both locally and globally. Today, Nokia remains a trusted name in this category, alongside Samsung, known for its consistent quality and durability.

Smartphones

The mid-2000s marked the arrival of the first-generation smartphones. Nokia retained its leadership with the N series, while BlackBerry also earned respect during this period. These early smartphones didn’t have touchscreens or apps, and their functionalities were limited. However, they introduced improved camera quality and larger internal storage, making them ideal for storing photos, audio, video files, and ringtones. Internet access was slow and limited to GPRS until the 3G network was launched in Bangladesh in 2012, gradually increasing the popularity of online features.

Android Smartphones

The first commercial Android phone, the HTC Dream, was launched in late 2008 and quickly began reshaping the smartphone market. While Apple iPhones, Nokia’s Symbian, and BlackBerry OS phones were also present, Android stood out with its innovative app store and its extensive possibilities. In Bangladesh, Android smartphones gained momentum after the 3G network launch in late 2012, with Symphony and Samsung leading the way.

As of March 2023, Android holds a 70.93% global smartphone market share and dominates the Bangladeshi market with a 95.72% share. Apple’s iOS follows with a 28.37% global share and a 3.81% share in Bangladesh (source: StatCounter).
